The Benton/West City Chamber of Commerce is proud to host the "Best Dam BBQ Cookoff". The event is set to take place on Saturday July 7, 2012 at the Rend Lake Dam. We are sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society and have been declared a State Championship Cook off by the State of Illinois. Teams will put their skills to the test as they compete in four (4) food categories. Certified KCBS judges will then taste and score each of the dishes. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to the winners. The team with the highest tabulated score will then be declared the Grand Champion. Come and bear witness to world class barbecue at it's finest!

We understand that you will be attending other cooks up until the date of ours and it can get expensive paying for all the entry fees. So if you would like to guarantee your spot at our event, you can mail us a check with your entry and we'll hold it till July 1, 2012. We won't cash it until then, and by doing so you will also be entered into our "Early Bird Drawing" that will take place at the cook off. Be sure and write the word "HOLD" on your entry and you're all set!

Ronald McDonald House Charities
A portion of the the cook off proceeds benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities. St. Louis' three Ronald McDonald Houses serve as a "home-away-from-home" from families with seriously-ill children being treated at area hospitals and provides support to organizations that serve the needs of children.
The Houses offer parents and family members a respite from hospital waiting rooms 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.
The Houses are designed to bring the comforts of home to families far away from their own homes with comfortable beds, warm meals, kitchen and laundry facilities, and toys for the kids.
Ronald McDonald House Charities also serves St. Louis families at three Ronald McDonald House family rooms inside local hospitals. These rooms provide many of the same comforts of the Ronald McDonald House such as hot showers, laundry facilities, snacks, and television. Here, families can take a break from the hustle and bustle of hospital corridors.

Get Your 2012 Cook Off Tee Shirts
Do you like BBQ? Then pick up one of these here cook off tee shirts and eat it in style! You'll really stand out from the crowd wearing one of these babies which showcases the epic battle of beef vs pork. When placing your order please note your size. Payment must be made in advance before picking up your shirt. Teams can send sizes and money along with their entry form or note their sizes and pay the day of the event. The general public may purchase shirts at the Benton/ West City Chamber of Commerce office during regular business hours at 211 N. Main Street in Benton, Illinois. Shirts will be printed the last week of June and available for pickup the first week of July. Shirts come in orange only and cost $10.00 each.

Best Dam Washer Tournament
The 2012 "Best Dam Washer Tournament" is set for Saturday July 7, 2012 immediately following the conclusion of the barbecue judging which wraps up around 2:00pm. Tournament game play consists of the best two of three games played and it is a single elimination bracket. Teams may sign up beginning at 9:00am up until the start of the tournament. The entry fee is $20.00 per team. Cash prizes will be awarded and washer boxes will be available for practice up until start time. Rend Lake Dam
Rend Lake is the largest man made lake in the state of Illinois, and was built as a joint project by the Illinois Department of Conservation, the Rend Lake Conservancy District, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This 18,000 acre reservoir was built to provide a dependable domestic water supply to a two-county area beginning in 1965. Construction of the $60 million project took 5 years to complete with the final filling of the lake in the early 1970's. Since that time, many improvements have been made resulting in quality facilities that are currently available. Rend Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area was developed to provide public hunting, and other recreational opportunities.
